Position Summary

The Technical Project Manager will lead analytics-focused projects that involve SQL databases and mainframe systems, ensuring the successful delivery of data integration, reporting, and business intelligence initiatives. The role requires expertise in coordinating technical teams, understanding complex data environments, and translating business requirements into actionable analytics solutions. The ideal candidate has strong project management experience, a deep understanding of mainframe technologies, and hands-on experience with SQL-based data systems.


Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end analytics projects involving mainframe and SQL-based systems using PMP or Agile methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, budgets, resource allocations, and risk logs.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including database administrators, ETL developers, business analysts, and data engineers.
  • Monitor project progress, manage dependencies, and ensure timely delivery of analytics solutions.

Technical Oversight

  • Understand mainframe technologies (COBOL, CICS, DB2, IMS) and their data structures for reporting and integration purposes.
  • Oversee SQL-based analytics projects, including ETL pipelines, data warehouses, BI dashboards, and reporting systems.
  • Facilitate requirements gathering, technical design reviews, data mapping, and system integration.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and performance across legacy and modern systems.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Partner with business stakeholders to define KPIs, metrics, and reporting requirements.
  • Translate business needs into technical specifications for mainframe and SQL systems.
  • Support testing, validation, and quality assurance of analytics deliverables.
  • Ensure actionable insights are delivered through dashboards, reports, and data visualization tools.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Act as the primary liaison between IT teams, business units, and external vendors.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and technical details to leadership in clear, non-technical language.
  • Manage vendor deliverables, contracts, and integration dependencies.

Risk, Compliance & Security

  • Ensure analytics projects comply with data governance, security, and regulatory standards.
  • Identify risks related to mainframe modernization, data migration, or SQL integration.
  • Implement mitigation strategies and monitor issue resolution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • PMP certification preferred; Agile/Scrum certification a plus.
  • 5+ years of project management experience with technical and analytics projects.
  • Strong experience with SQL databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or DB2).
  • Hands-on familiarity with mainframe technologies (COBOL, DB2, IMS, CICS).
  • Understanding of ETL, data warehousing, and BI platforms (Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and documentation skills

Preferred Experience

  • Leading projects involving mainframe modernization, SQL reporting, or analytics migrations.
  • Working with large-scale legacy data systems and integrating them with modern analytics platforms.
  • Experience in BFSI, insurance, healthcare, or other data-intensive industries.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based analytics platforms or hybrid architectures.
  • Lean Six Sigma or process-improvement background is a plus.
  • Experience with both Waterfall and Agile delivery models.
