New ISG Provider Lens® Briefing: LIBER*M Pairs Deterministic Automation with Small Language Models

ISG Research has published a new ISG Provider Lens® briefing note profiling mLogica’s LIBER*M mainframe application and data modernization suite. The note examines how LIBER*M pairs a deterministic core with automation and Small Language Models (SLMs) to analyze, reengineer, and transform legacy environments, preserving behavior while enabling architectural change.

The briefing builds on mLogica’s recognition as a Leader in the Mainframe Application Modernization Software quadrant in the 2026 ISG Provider Lens® Mainframes Services and Solutions studies.

Highlights from the note include:

  • A deterministic core of translators and compilers, with generic LLMs deliberately kept out of behavior-preserving conversion.
  • SLMs trained on real production artifacts such as COBOL and JCL, with GenAI scoped to validation, documentation, and testing under human-in-the-loop governance.
